A support post base for a portable safety rail or fence system, said base having a top face side, an opposed bottom face side for contacting a support surface, andfirst toe rail holder slots or channels configured for detachably engaging a toe rail component for horizontal disposition thereof,said top face side presenting support post engagement (upright) sockets, pins, or the like configured for detachably engaging one or more support posts for upstanding disposition thereof.
