ABSTRACT:
A portable electronic apparatus having a telephoning function receives country or area data to be set therein through an infrared communication controller19and an infrared communication device20, and stores the data in a flash ROM. The country or area initial data corresponding to the data stored in the flash ROM is selected from a database including various kinds of initial data stored in a ROM to cope with a plurality of countries or areas, and the selected initial data is used to initialize software.
