Polymers bearing a quaternary ammonium group are disclosed as being useful in lowering serum cholesterol levels in man. A compound of the invention is N,N-dimethyl-N-(2-(N,N-dimethylcarbamoyl)ethyl)-ammoniomethyl-substitut ed polystyrene, chloride salt.
