ABSTRACT:
Quaternary ammonium salts exhibiting strong antimicrobial activity are disclosed along with the method of using them as antimicrobial agents. The salts having the formulas I or II: ##STR1## wherein R is C.sub.1-20 alkyl, C.sub.5-7 cycloalkyl or an aralkyl group, R.sup.1 is methyl or ethyl, and X is a halogen, are prepared by the method comprising the steps of:
