ABSTRACT:
Aromatic polyimide gas separation membranes containing the repeating unit: ##STR1## where --Ar-- =is ##STR2## or mixtures thereof, ##STR3## or mixtures thereof Where --X, X.sub.1, X.sub.2, and X.sub.3 are independently primary or secondary alkyl groups having 1 to 6 carbon atoms preferably methyl or ethyl, --Z is --H, --X, --X.sub.1, --X.sub.2, or --X.sub.3 and R' is ##STR4## where n=0 to 4 or alkylene radicals of 1 to 3 carbon atoms and --R"-- is ##STR5##
