Novel carbonate polymers exhibiting improved processability comprised of the polymerized reaction products of (i) at least one dihydric phenol, (ii) a carbonyl halide carbonate precursor, and (iii) at least one specific bishaloformate. The bishaloformate is selected from bishaloformates represented by the general formulae ##STR1## wherein: X is independently selected from chlorine and bromine radicals;
