ABSTRACT:
A polyalkylene imide of high brightness and retention characteristics and low biological toxicity comprises a polyalkylene imine having covalently bound thereto at least one residue of a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is H, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkyl, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.6) alkenyl, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.6)alkynyl or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkoxyl;
