ABSTRACT:
A polyacrylamide of high brightness and retention characteristics and low biological toxicity comprises a polyacrylic acid having covalently bound thereto at least one residue of a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is H, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkyl, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.6)alkenyl, (C.sub.2 -C.sub.6)alkynyl or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)alkoxyl;
