ABSTRACT:
A physiologically active polypeptide effective for decreasing cholesterol levels and increasing 17 keto-steroid elimination of human patients is prepared by enzymatic proteolysis at temperatures not above 45.degree. C of mammalian organs rich in reticulo-endotelial tissue. The polypeptide has a molecular weight of less than 5,000, an isoelectric point at pH 5.5 and an Rf value between 0.5 and 0.6 in Partridge solution. It may be administered orally or parenterally.
