ABSTRACT:
Novel squarylium compounds, a process for the production thereof as well as to a photoreceptor for electrophotography containing the squarylium compound are disclosed, said squarylium compounds being represented by formula (I) or (II): ##STR1## wherein X is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a hydroxyl group, an alkoxy group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or a halogen atom; Y is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms a hydroxyl group or an alkoxyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
