ABSTRACT:
Photographic compounds capable of releasing a photographically useful group (PUG) by means of an intramolecular nucleophilic displacement provide increased image acutance when a coupling-off group in the coupling position of the compound is a group of the formula: ##STR1## wherein PUG is a photographically useful group; Q is N or C--R where R is hydrogen or a substituent that does not adversely affect imaging; and Z represents atoms completing a non-aromatic, heterocyclic ring. The photographic compounds are useful in photographic materials and processes.
