Herbicidal compositions comprising one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of .delta.-aminolevulinic acid, inducers of .delta.-aminolevulinic acid, enhancers of .delta.-aminolevulinic acid conversion to photodynamic tetrapyrroles, and inhibitors of conversion of divinyl tetrapyrroles to monovinyl tetrapyrroles; and methods of making and using same.
