ABSTRACT:
Novel phosphonium and imidazolium salts and methods for preparing them are disclosed. The novel phosphonium and imidazolium compounds are useful as polar solvents and have the general formula (I): Q+X−wherein Q+is formula (a) or formula (b); and X−is formula (c), formula (d) or formula (e); and wherein: each of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R9, R10, R11, R12, and R13is independently a hydrocarbyl group; each of R6, R7, and R8is independently a hydrogen or hydrocarbyl group.
