ABSTRACT:
A new composition and process provide improved phosphate treatment prior to cathodic electropainting. The surface is contacted with an aqueous acidic zinc phosphate solution having a weight ratio of Zn:PO.sub.4 of 1:12-110 and 0.3 to 2.0 g/l fluoborate prior to electropainting.
