ABSTRACT:
What is disclosed are aqueous compositions which are useful for coating solid substrates such as glass, plastic and metal. The aqueous compositions comprise colloidal silica, a phenolic resin, water and at least one hydrolyzable silane. An example of such a composition is colloidal silica, phenolic resin, water and CH.sub.3 SiO.sub.3/2 obtained from CH.sub.3 Si(OCH.sub.3).sub.3.
