A pharmaceutical composition for rectal administration containing 11.alpha.,15(S)-dihydroxy-20-methoxy-16(S)-methyl-9-oxo-5(cis,13(trans)-pr ostadienoic acid or a water-soluble salt thereof dissolved or dispersed in a lipophilic or hydrophilic base in the presence or absence of a buffer solution or an aqueous organic amine solution.
