ABSTRACT:
Pharmaceutical compositions comprising trimethoprim and a N-ethyl-.gamma.-pyridone-3-carboxylic acid derivative, such as nalidixic, oxolinic or piromidic acid, are more effective than previously known trimethoprim-containing compositions for the treatment of infections affecting the urinary tract.
Trimethoprim and the foregoing acid derivatives unpredictably show a noticeable synergistic effect.
