A compound gear with a helical gear is in mesh with the helical pinion gear. A first drive pinion gear fixed to the helical pinion gear is in mesh with the first spur gear. A second spur gear is fixed to the drive axle shaft and in mesh with first drive pinion gear. All of the gears are in the gear case rotate about parallel axes. The helical pinion gear and the first drive pinion gear have small pitch diameters to increase torque. The driven axle drives a wheel.
