ABSTRACT:
A compound represented by the formula (1).wherein Ra is alkyl having 1 to 10 carbon(s) and, in that alkyl, any of —CH2— may be replaced with —O—, —S—, —CO—, —CH═CH— or —C≡C— or any of hydrogens may be replaced with halogen or —CN; A1, A2and A3are independently 1,4-cycolohexylene, 1,4-cyclohexenylene, 1,4-phenylene, naphthalene-2,6-diyl, 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene-2,6-diyl, decahydronaphthalene-2,6-diyl or 1,4-bicyclo[2.2.2]octylene and, in such a ring, any —CH2— may be replaced with —O—, any —CH═ may be replaced with —N═ and any hydrogen may be replaced with halogen; Z1, Z2and Z3are independently a single bond, —(CH2)2—, —(CF2)2—, —COO—, —OCO—, —CH2O—, —OCH2—, —CF2O—, —OCF2—, —CH═CH—, —CF═CF—, —C≡C—, —(CH2)4—, —(CH2)3O— or —O(CH2)3—; p and q are independently 0 or 1. Also provided is a liquid crystal composition containing the same and a liquid crystal display element containing the composition.
