According to one embodiment of a passive infrared sensor, a passive infrared sensor1where an infrared sensing element5and an optical system4that sets a detection area A1of the infrared sensing element5are covered with a cover2. The passive infrared sensor1includes: a light emitting element6that emits infrared light from the inside of the cover2to the outside through the optical system4; a reflective region2bthat is disposed outside the cover2and reflects at least some of the infrared light emitted from the light emitting element6; and a light receiving element7that receives the infrared light reflected by the reflective region2b, transmitted through the optical system4and reaching the inside of the cover2.
