ABSTRACT:
A spliced narrow non-directional endless belt for packaging applications, for use with plastic film wrapping packaging equipment. The ends of a coated fabric belt material are butted together and a fluoropolymer film is applied to the butted ends on the outer surface of the belt. A splice material (also a coated fabric) is centered over such fluoropolymer film. Another fluoropolymer film is positioned over the splice material so as to encapsulate it and another fluoropolymer film extends on the inside surface of the belt over the butted ends of the belt. The ends of this latter film extend over the edges of the belt onto the exterior surface of the film that is positioned over the splice on the front surface of the belt. Coatings of fluoropolymer dispersions are preferably applied over the various layers, and the entire construction is laminated together into a unitary construction.
The resulting spliced belt is non-directional in that it is adapted to rotate in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction when installed in the packaging equipment.
