ABSTRACT:
Gas electrodes which contain a hydrophilic layer are disclosed. The hydrophilic layer is adapted to provide a gas-liquid interface therein; and includes an oxygen absorption/reduction material selected from the group consisting of CaMnO.sub.3 and Ca.sub.(1.sub.-x.sub.-z) MnO.sub.3 :Na.sub.x,Y.sub. z and a current collector. A hydrophobic layer can then be laminated to the hydrophilic layer.
