ABSTRACT:
This invention is a composition useful for dyeing keratinous fiber red without using o-, m- or p-phenylenediamine, 2,4-diaminoanisole or nitro compounds. The composition consists essentially of .alpha.-hydroxynaphthalene, p-aminophenol, a suitable modifier, a suitable coupler and a suitable base. This composition is combined with an oxidizing agent before contacting the hair to dye hair red.
