ABSTRACT:
A process for the preparation of alpha-hydroxyisobutyric acid by the stoichiometric oxidation of isobutyric acid in aqueous solution at temperatures of from about 50.degree. C. to 200.degree. C. in the presence of a thallic (Tl.sup.+3) salt.
