ABSTRACT:
An over-writable method of magnetooptical recording using a magnetooptical recording medium provides a high C/N ratio in a reproduction mode, permits reduction of the intensity of the initial magnetic field at room temperature in a recording mode, and permits reduction of laser beam intensity in a recording mode. First and second magnetic layers having perpendicular magnetic anisotropy serve as a recording layer and as a reference layer, respectively. The second layer comprises an alloy composition given by the formula:
