ABSTRACT:
An organic electroluminescence (EL) element has a RC time constant of 100 ns or less. Specifically, the capacitance of an organic EL element is 500 PF or less and/or the area of the light-emitting surface of the organic EL element is 0.025 cm.sup.2 or less, while the electron transport time is 600 ns or less. On this manner, an organic EL element having a high response speed is obtained. An organic EL element having an extremely high speed may be obtained if the time constant of the organic EL element is 10 ns or less, both the hole transport time and the electron transport time is 40 ns or less and both the light emission rise complete time and the light emission decay complete time are 50 ns or less.
