ABSTRACT:
In optical module10,light emitted from laser diode (hereinafter referred to as “LD”)42is collimated into parallel light beam by ball lens44and then travels through ball lens26to be focused on core104of optical fiber100.Since the light passing between ball lenses44and26is the parallel light beam as described above, allowance is enlarged for axial misalignment between the optical axes of ball lens44and ball lens26.This enables the light from LD42to be focused on core102of optical fiber100even if there occurs axial misalignment between the optical axes of optical fiber100and LD42due to a factor resulting from fitting of ferrule102into sleeve14or the like. Accordingly, there is no need for alignment in a work of mounting optoelectronic device28,i.e., LD42in housing12.
