An optical fiber array substrate11has, in one surface thereof, eight V-grooves12for securing eight optical fibers14aligned in parallel to each other, and V-shaped side grooves13formed outside of the respective outermost V-grooves12located at the opposite sides of the substrate11. The apexes of the outside ridges12cand12ddefining the outermost V-grooves12are at the same height as the apexes of the inside ridges12aand, the height of the bottom13aof the side groove13is lower than that of a contact point12ebetween the ridge line of the V-groove12and optical fiber14.
