ABSTRACT:
Optical devices and especially electrochromic devices comprising a sealed cell containing an aqueous medium and having a pair of opposed walls, at least one of which is transparent. Breakage due to freezing is minimized by providing a cell in which one of the walls is dished, having a main portion which is parallel to the other wall and a sloping peripheral portion surrounding the main portion and intersecting the other wall at an angle not greater than 30.degree..
