ABSTRACT:
An optical disk drive according to the present invention includes: an optical pickup6including a light source23that radiates a light beam21to irradiate an optical disk100, at least one objective lens22for converging the beam21, and an actuator that can move the lens22perpendicularly to the disk100; a transport stage11for displacing the pickup6in a disk radial direction; a rim detecting section30for sensing if the irradiated position of the beam21has passed an outer edge of the disk100while the pickup6is being displaced from an inner area of the disk toward the outer edge thereof to conduct a seek operation; and a control section40for getting the lens22retracted away from the disk100by the actuator and getting the pickup6displaced toward the inner area of the disk by the transport stage11if the irradiated position of the light beam21has been sensed to have passed the outer edge of the disk100.
