ABSTRACT:
A light reflective layer is formed on a transparent substrate of an optical disk. Grooves as tracking guides are formed in the light reflective layer along the circumferential direction of the optical disk. A flat surface region is formed between adjacent grooves along the circumferential direction of the optical disk. Preformation pits 6 are formed in the reflective layer of the region. The groove has a depth (preset to be .lambda./8) which is equal to a width and depth of the preformation pit. The width of the groove is determined to be one-half the laser beam spot diameter.
