ABSTRACT:
An optical device for monitoring the speed of a rotating member characterized by a reflector mounted on a surface of the rotating member adjacent the periphery to travel in a circular path, a light source creating an input beam and either directing it at along a given angle of incidence at a point on the circular path of the reflector or through a waveguide at the point, a second waveguide arranged on the path of light reflected by the reflector and conducting the reflected light to an opto-acoustical transducer which converts the reflected light pulses into sound.
