The optical amplifying device comprises a DFB laser22formed on an n type InP substrate10, for outputting control light; a symmetrical Mach-Zehnder interferometer12formed on the n type InP substrate10and including 3 dB optical couplers14, 16having 2 input ports and 2 output ports, and optical waveguides24a, 24bwhich optically interconnect the output port of the 3 dB optical coupler14and the input port of the 3 dB optical coupler16; and SOAs24a, 24brespectively formed in the optical waveguides24a, 24b.
