ABSTRACT:
Anode gas is fed to an anode chamber of a molten carbonate fuel cell and cathode gas is fed to a cathode chamber of the fuel cell. CO.sub.2 is separated from gases discharged from the cathode chamber of the fuel cell by a CO.sub.2 separator or by another fuel cell which serves as the CO.sub.2 separator. The separated CO.sub.2 is entirely or partially is introduced to the cathode chamber with gases discharged from the anode chamber such that a CO.sub.2 concentrations in the cathode chamber is raised and the power generation is performed at a low CO.sub.2 utilization factor mode.
