ABSTRACT:
An open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type comprises a housing, a rotor shaft, which is rotatably mounted in the housing and supports a rotor non-rotatably connected therewith, and a free-wheeling hub mechanism. The free-wheeling hub mechanism has an outer ring which is fixedly connected to the housing, an inner ring which is non-rotatably mounted on the rotor shaft and located inside the outer ring, and an annular roll holder which is placed in an annular gap between the two rings and by resilient shafts, supports the rolls. The rolls are rotatable about the shafts and held by these in resilient abutment against the inner ring. The roll holder is, within narrow limits, turnable between a first turning position, in which the rolls are clamped between the inner ring and ramp surfaces of the outer ring, thereby preventing rotation of the rotor in one direction, and a second turning position, in which the rolls are released and abut against the inner ring only to be rotated thereby.
