ABSTRACT:
A disk drive assembly according to the present invention comprises a disk with a single recording surface having a substantially planar region at its center, a motor assembly, and an actuator assembly including a single suspension supporting a transducer, wherein the transducer is parked at the center region of the disk. In a preferred embodiment, the disk is mounted directly to a flat motor. In an alternate embodiment, a motor hub or a stationary structure is provided at the center of the disk and is flush with the plane of the recording surface. The design of the present invention offers the advantage of a very low profile disk drive particularly suitable for applications such as card-type disk drives.
