ABSTRACT:
Methods and compositions are provided for detecting a gene encoding .alpha.amylase from a nucleic acid sample suspected of containing said gene. Said methods utilize oligonucleotide probes of consensus sequences deduced from highly conserved DNA sequences of various Bacillus species.
