ABSTRACT:
Thioxotropic compositions having initially relatively high viscosity which can decrease with time are prepared by admixing water and chloroform with an anionic surfactant, a cationic surfactant, an acid to adjust the pH of the aqueous phase to 4.5 or less, and a buffer salt. These compositions are valuable drilling fluids, fracturing fluids, and surfactant fluids for chemical flooding in tertiary oil recovery.
