The invention relates to cycloheximide resistance proteins, which are capable of conferring resistance to cycloheximide to cells containing the protein. The invention also relates to fragments or derivatives of cycloheximide proteins which confer cycloheximide resistance and/or are recognized by antibodies specific for the cycloheximide resistance proteins.
