ABSTRACT:
A system for processing fluid carrying a component by depositing the component onto a medium and evaporating the fluid. The system includes a collection medium and a nozzle arrangement. The nozzle arrangement includes a long capillary with a first, inlet end for receiving a flow of the fluid carrying the component and a second, outlet end arranged near the collection medium. A heater is provided for heating the capillary. A sheath gas is directed toward the collection medium in a manner that the fluid is exposed to the sheath gas after emerging from the outlet end of the capillary. The long capillary may be bent, e.g., in a helical configuration, so that, in spite of its length, a nozzle of practical size for an analytical instrument can be provided.
