Novel peresters having the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or an alkyl group or an alkoxy group having 1-6 C atoms and a method for making them are provided. The novel peresters may be used to advantage in the polymerization or copolymerization of ethylenically unsaturated compounds.
