ABSTRACT:
Gold films are deposited on non-metallic substrates very rapidly at ambient temperatures by sensitizing and activating a surface of a non-metallic substrate to be coated and subsequently contacting the activated surface with a solution containing a gold salt which is reduced to a metallic gold film in the presence of divalent mercury, cadmium or lead ions.
