ABSTRACT:
Liquid crystal compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein X can be alkyl (R-), alkoxy (RO-), acyloxy ##STR2## or alkylcarbonato ##STR3## wherein R is an alkyl group from 1-10 carbon atoms, and R.sub.1 -R.sub.3 can be hydrogen, methyl or halogen with the proviso that at least one and no more than two of R.sub.1 -R.sub.3 are substituents other than hydrogen, have positive dielectric anisotropy and are useful in electro-optic devices which comprise a thin liquid crystal layer between two closely spaced parallel electrodes.
