ABSTRACT:
The present invention relates to photography and, more particularly, to a novel spectrally (optically) sensitized radiation recording photographic element which comprises a cyanine dye of the formula: ##STR1## wherein L represents a methine group; m represents a positive integer of from 1 to 3, inclusive; Z and Z.sub.1 each represents the nonmetallic atoms necessary to complete a cyanine dye heterocyclic ring system containing a 5 or 6 membered heterocyclic nucleus; R and R.sub.1 each represents a divalent acyclic or cyclic group; X.sup.+ represents a quaternary ammonium, sulfonium or phosphonium group; Y.sup.- represents a --SO.sub.3.sup.- or --COO.sup.- group; and W.sup.- represents an anion.
