A hydrogenation catalyst consisting essentially of (A) at least one bis(cyclopentadienyl)titanium compound represented by the formula (1): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, which may be the same or different, represent halogen atoms, hydrocarbon groups, aryloxy groups, alkoxy groups or carbonyl groups, and (B) at least one lithium compound represented by the formula (2):
