ABSTRACT:
A waveguide is formed by performing epitaxial growth of .beta.-BaB.sub.2 O.sub.4 on top of .alpha.-Ba.sub.1-x Sr.sub.x B.sub.2 O.sub.4 (where 0.04.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.10). A nonlinear optical waveguide device using .beta.-BaB.sub.2 O.sub.4 can output a highly converted laser beam.
