ABSTRACT:
A low attenuation optical waveguide fiber having medium dispersion is disclosed. The core and the cladding are selected to provide a spectral attenuation at 1550 nm of less than 0.195 dB/km. The optical fiber exhibits an effective area of greater than about 60 μm2at a wavelength of about 1550 nm, a dispersion slope of less than 0.07 ps
m2/km at a wavelength of about 1550 nm, and a zero-dispersion wavelength of less than about 1500 nm.
