ABSTRACT:
A nonevaporable getter having an improved sorptive capacity is prepared from a metal powder comprising a titanium-vanadium alloy containing from 20 to 35% by weight vanadium, from 0.1% to 0.5% by weight calcium, the balance being titanium. The metal powder has a bulk density in the range from about 0.7 to about 1.5 g/cm.sup.3. A getter prepared from this metal powder comprises from 20 to 35% by weight vanadium, from 0.1 to 0.5% by weight calcium, and the balance being titanium. A getter prepared from this metal powder has a porosity from 25 to 65% by volume. A method for the preparation of a getter is also provided.
