ABSTRACT:
High-density nickel powders are produced by forming an .alpha.- or .beta.-cobalt hydroxide layer on the surfaces of and within pores of nickel hydroxide particles. The coated nickel hydroxide particles feature enhanced utilization as the positive electrode active material in alkali batteries and enable the capacity of the positive electrode to be increased.
