ABSTRACT:
A multistage Stirling engine1mounted on an automobile provided with an internal combustion engine has two cylinders4and5. Displacer pistons6and7and power pistons8and9are slidably fitted in the two cylinders4and5, respectively. The exhaust gas discharged from the internal combustion engine and serving as a heating fluid flows sequentially through the cylinders4and5to heat helium gas serving as a working fluid of the Stirling engine. The cylinders4and5are disposed parallel to each other. Heaters16and17, regenerative heat exchangers18and19, and coolers20and21are installed between the cylinders4and5. The multistage Stirling engine is flat and compact.
